Title:  Here, The Dot We Call Home

Author:  Laura Alary           Illustrator:  Catherin Peterslund

Publisher:  Paraclete Press, 2022

This book starts with the home that is close to us, our own house and gradually moves away to town and eventually our whole planet.  Really brings home that our planet is the only home we have so we better appreciate it and take care of it, but without being preachy.

Title:  Thank You Earth! A love letter to our planet

Author and Photographer:  April Pulley Sayre

Publisher: Greenwillow Books, 2018

It’s April Pulley Sayre and it is a thank you letter to the Earth.-what could be better?  Beautiful and lyrical as Sayre always is.  I love to read this book myself every couple months just because it makes me feel good.  The photographs taken by the author our beautiful, interesting and perfectly matched to the text.

Title:  From Sea To Tree

Author: Shelley Moore Thomas       Illustrator: Christopher Silas Neal

Publisher:  Simon & Schuster/Paula Wiseman Books , 2019

This book is as much about our personal response to nature as much as nature itself.  We can learn so much about and from nature, but even better, we can improve our own well-being.

Title: When the Sky Glows

Author: Nell Cross Beckerman   Illustrator: David Litchfield

I love books that use an overarching theme to make connections.  Using repetition, the author connects times when the sky glows from lightning and rainbows to meteor showers and volcanoes.  The illustrations are colorful and exciting. This book inspires wonder and makes us pay a little closer attention to nature.  The main text is accessible for younger children but each spread also has a little more detailed information for older children.

Title: Nature’s Best Hope: How You Can Save The World In Your Own Backyard (Young Reader’s Edition)

Author: Douglas Talamy   Adapted by: Sara L Thomson

This middle grade book is adapted from the original Nature’s Best Hope by Douglas Talamy.  Bird populations are in decline and temperatures are rising.  Children may feel helpless but the author offers solutions as the subtitle says “in your own back yard”.  Very accessible reading style for your readers.  The suggestions given empower young people to take actions locally to improve our environment and fight against climate change.
