With the anniversary of the moon landing, many publishers have published books to commemorate this historical event. If you could only buy one book about the moon landing, this would be the book. Slade was able to capture the events leading up to Apollo 11, starting with President Kennedy’s famous announcement, with beauty and realism. As a person who lived during this time, I think she did a great job capturing the feeling of the country during that time. I was really impressed at Slade’s handling of difficult events like Kennedy’s assassination and the Apollo 1 disaster. Gonzalez’ beautiful and realistic illustrations pull you into the story. The book is divided into chapters which I think really helps to keep the events organized and clear. It is a bit longer, but it is both comprehensive and concise. Highly recommended.
