About Angela

Angela Turner spent over thirty years in science classrooms from fifth grade up through high school. During much of that time she also taught high school Art classes and coached robotics teams. Some career high points included winning a Toyota Tapestry grant where, working with an industry partner, she and her classes installed remote cameras at a surface coal mine to monitor birds.

Winning the Pearson Miller-Levine Tropical Biology Scholarship sent her on a two week teacher adventure in Costa Rica.  Later her students learned about diabetes research through lessons created during a Research Experience for Teachers program in Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University. Several years her students were part of Planting Science, a program where students work directly with plant researchers in an online platform.  But seeing the “light of understanding” turn on in a student’s eyes is still her favorite part of teaching. After a short retirement, she now works in a virtual school teaching science to 8th grade students across Texas.  In recent years, Angela started writing children’s picture books.  Stories about STEAM and people working in STEAM are her favorite topics to write about.

Angela and her husband live in Normangee, Texas, the perfect place for watching birds, squirrels and other critters.  Outside of teaching and writing, Angela likes to make quilts, read, draw and spend time with family.
